May 2010 President's Letter
UNBELIEVABLE! May! The END of the school year! It seems this year has flown by!
First, THANK YOU EVERYONE! We owe the success of the year to all of you who have volunteered, donated, participated in or spent time helping our Steck students succeed!
I have heard a few people say, “I really haven’t done much.” Really?! Every hour of volunteering improves our
community! Not only that, an article released by the Corporation for National & Community Service found “a significant connection between volunteering and good health”. The report shows that volunteers have greater longevity, higher functional ability, lower rates of depression and less incidence of heart disease.” THANK YOU!
As a staff highlight, Robin Richards, ELL Teacher, was awarded a Jeanine Nicarico Literacy Grant. This grant will provide technology to help parents and their children learn to speak and read English together. Mrs. Richards plans to videotape several different lessons, such as letter names and sounds, and record simple reading lessons to send home. This will be a great way for parents to learn English in the comfort of their own home and a way to reinforce what the children have learned at school. Parents will find out what their children are learning while in the ELL class time. Thank you, Mrs. Richards, for securing this grant for our students and school!
Registration packets and forms are due for the 2011-12 school year! As part of the registration process, there is the opportunity to order school supplies and have them delivered to school prior to “Meet the Teacher” day in August. PTA membership registrations are also available. Remember, included in the PTA registration is the Steck student directory delivered in the fall. Steck PTA provides funding for academic enrichment opportunities such as field trips, in house assemblies, publishing center, and playground supplies. PTA also off ers many extra “fun” activities such as the Spring Carnival, Field Day, and the Back to School Social. Thank you for your support of the Steck PTA.
Looking ahead, “Meet the Teacher” and the Back to School Social are scheduled for August 19th!
